History Award 2013

Little Falls UMC Selected as Winner of the 2013 Robert B. Steelman Methodist History Award: Each year the Greater New Jersey Commission on Archives and History presents the Robert B. Steelman Methodist History Award to a church in our Conference who has made its history come alive for future generations.

We are very happy to share the news that Little Falls UMC was selected for this prestigious award for 2013 because of the following: (1) The Celebration of the Saints Sunday when we recognized all those who had been faithful members at Little Falls UMC for 50 or more years in 2012;  (2) The wonderful 40th Anniversary Celebration of the new sanctuary and the related Commemorative Booklet with personal reflections and testimonies from 1969-2009;  and  (3) Dr. Edward T. Schneider’s detailed compilation of the history of Little Falls UMC first published in 1999.

We thank our church historian, Marion Start, for her efforts in submitting our information for this award; Glen Flannagan, Robin Hofgesang, and the entire 40th anniversary committee who brought together so many people for a time of faithful witness and remembrance in 2009; and all those who took part in our LFUMC “Celebration of the Saints Sunday” on June 3, 2012.

As you know, the Little Falls United Methodist congregation has roots that go back as far as 1825 when neighbors began to gather for worship together in a little schoolhouse that stood at 61 Main Street.  We have made history together as the people of God for nearly 200 years and will continue to do so as we plan for a future of great hope and promise.

We are proud of our heritage and thankful for all the individuals and families at LFUMC who have lived out their faith in Christ for generations. May God continue to bless us as we move forward together, striving always to create places and opportunities where more disciples of Jesus Christ may be made for the glory of God.
